● Research platform: National Engineering Research Center of human Stem Cells, National postdoctoral workstation and Academician Workstation in Changsha.
● International cooperation: We have carried out international research cooperation in the fields of stem cells, genetics and immunology with professor Walter Bodmer, one of the first to suggest the idea of the Human Genome Project, member of the Royal Society of the United Kingdom, foreign academician of National Academy of Sciences，United States; and VOEVODA MIKHAIL, member of the Siberian branch of the Russian academy of sciences.
● Human embryonic stem cell bank: In 2007, we established the world's first homozygous human parthenogenetic embryonic stem cell line. Research of the human embryonic stem cell banking was published in CELL STEM CELL in 2009. To date, 522 human embryonic stem cell lines with different histocompatibility antigens have been established in the bank. Human embryonic stem cell lines and technical training have been provided to a number of laboratories all over the world. In China, our cell resources have been used in many important national research projects supported by 973, 863 and NSFC.
● Treatment of acute liver failure with embryonic stem cells: We have established a GMP facility for the preparation of clinical grade human hepatic progenitor cell on a large scale, and the efficiency of mature hepatocytes of our protocols is more than 95%. At present, the quality assessment, safety and toxicity evaluation of the hepatocyte products have been accomplished by some third parties, and the application for clinical trials of the hepatocyte products is underway.
