Department Introduction

The Reproductive and Genetic Center of CITIC Xiangya Reproductive & Genetic Hospital was established in 1980, developing from the infertility specialty of Central South University. It is a large reproductive center in China that integrates medical treatment and research. Its treatment volume is among the largest in the world in terms of IVF-ET and derivative technology cycles, and it is a key department of the hospital. Under the leadership of Professor Lu Guangxiu, a renowned reproductive medicine and medical geneticist in China, Dean Lin Ge, and Vice Dean Gong Fei, the department team has made a series of breakthroughs in tackling the problem of human infertility.

CITIC Xiangya Reproductive Center comprehensively carries out IVF-ET and its derivative technologies, including: conventional in-vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), embryo freezing, preimplantation genetic diagnosis and screening (PGT/PGT-A), etc. As of March 2022, the center has completed more than 300,000 fresh embryo retrieval cycles, more than 150,000 frozen embryo cycles, and more than 16,000 PGT transplantation cycles. More than 230,000 healthy babies have been born through assisted reproductive technology, with patients from 19 countries and regions around the world, 40% of whom are from outside the province. In August 2017, the top academic journal Nature reported that the hospital's assisted reproductive treatment cycles in 2016 were approximately equivalent to 1/4 of the total in the United States that year.

The center keeps up with international trends, constantly exploring innovation, and has established a series of new technology platforms: micro/single sperm freezing, oocyte freezing, ovarian tissue freezing, in-vitro oocyte maturation, and dynamic embryo observation, aiming to provide more cutting-edge and professional medical services for patients with various types of infertility. At the same time, adhering to the core concept of "patient-centered", it provides a convenient and efficient medical process, offers integrated online and offline services, implements a healthy pre-pregnancy preparation management system, and provides patients with integrated whole-process management services, striving to provide the utmost humanistic care.

The Reproductive Center's post-pregnancy management team focuses on IVF post-operative preservation and treatment services. It has a complete preservation mechanism and provides comprehensive whole-cycle health protection. It can provide patients with targeted inpatient preservation services, personalized preservation plans, guidance on pregnancy nutrition and diet, psychological health guidance, and TCM conditioning preservation, among other professional post-pregnancy services.

The Reproductive Center VIP area, established in 2019, has fully put its independent exclusive treatment area and wards into use at the beginning of 2022. The VIP area is served by a medical team led by Vice Dean Gong Fei, the academic leader of the Reproductive Center, and Associate Professor Zhang Shunji, a senior attending physician, along with a dedicated embryologist and a senior nursing team, providing patients with comprehensive and high-quality medical care. The highly private and comfortable medical environment, as well as one-on-one, full-process concierge tracking services greatly enhance the patient's medical experience. The VIP area is committed to providing patients with premium, efficient, and exclusive high-end medical services.

The Reproductive Center's internet medical services have been fully utilizing "Internet +" technology since 2019, breaking the limitations of geography and space to provide patients with more convenient online medical services. According to statistics, the center receives nearly 40,000 online outpatient visits annually. In addition to patients from all over China, there are also inquiries from countries such as Myanmar, Japan, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

The center promotes development through scientific research and uses development to create a model, forging a unique path of integrating production, education, and research in assisted reproductive technology. It has a doctoral degree program in reproductive medicine. In the past five years, it has published 103 papers, including 47 SCI articles, and undertaken 21 research projects.
