Professor Lin studies human embryonic stem cells and human assisted reproductive technologies. His research team established China's first human embryonic stem cell line in 2001, and now the team has developed an embryonic stem cell bank with independent intellectual property rights.His team was the first to establish the first hESCs line and hESCs bank in China, established key technical platforms such as the differentiation of hESCs into functional cells.He led his team to invent a new method of somatic cell nuclear transfer,obtained the world's first human therapeutic cloned embryo and the first therapeutic cloned blastocyst.He established the world's first platforms using next-generation sequencing technology to conduct PGD/PGS detection and gave birth to China's first "cancer-free baby",and developed the "MicroSeq" , etc.
He has presided over and participated in 14 projects, including Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Department Industry-Academia-Research Platform Projects, 863 projects, 973 projects, National Natural Science Foundation Outstanding Youth Foundation, Special Fund for Public Welfare Industry Scientific Research under the Ministry of Health , Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education of China, National Key Research and Development Program of China(13th Five-Year Plan) , and Hunan Provincial Key Special Programs.
As a principal contributor, he successively won the second prize of "National Science and Technology Progress Award" (ranked 5th) in 2009, the first Prize of "Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award " (ranked 1st) in 2013, and the "Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Team Award" in 2017.
He has published more than 130 papers in renowned SCI-indexed journals such as Cell Stem Cell, Nature Communications, Cell Research, EBiomedicine, and Human Reproduction, co-authored "Assisted Reproductive Laboratory Technology", participated in the formulation of one national pharmaceutical industry standard, one industry guideline, and four expert consensuses, and obtained 57 authorized patents, including 6 invention patents. He has won many honors, including the Ministry of Education "New Century Excellent Talents", Changsha City "Science and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Leading Talents", the National Hundred Thousand Talents Program “Outstanding Contribution Middle-aged and Young Expert” , "Experts Enjoying the State Council Special Allowances ", "Hunan Provincial May1st Labor Medal", and Hunan Enterprise "Innovation Elite".
